- Diesel Mechanic | Day Shift (Fife, WA)
Description
Murrey's Disposal, a Waste Connections company, is hiring a full-time diesel mechanic to join our team in Fife, Washington. This is a great opportunity for experienced mechanics seeking stable, long-term employment with a company that prioritizes safety, teamwork, and career development.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Pay Range: $36.00 to $38.00 per hour
As a diesel mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of garbage trucks and trailers. You'll work in a safety-focused environment using diagnostic tools and software to ensure our vehicles operate efficiently and meet all regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks and trailers
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with DOT and OSHA standards
- Use diagnostic software (Cummins Insite, Davie-4, Allison DOC) and laptops for troubleshooting
- Document repairs, parts usage, and labor hours using fleet maintenance software
- Perform MIG welding and basic fabrication as needed
- Test drive vehicles to verify repairs and performance
- Maintain a clean and organized shop environment
- Communicate with drivers and supervisors regarding vehicle issues and status
- Review and complete repairs based on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)
- Track and manage parts inventory and shop supplies
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to safely disable equipment during maintenance and repair
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy truck maintenance and diesel repair
- Intermediate experience with diagnostic tools and software
- Basic tool set required
- Valid Driver's License
- Class B CDL preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Welding experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of vehicle safety standards and OSHA compliance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
